FOSSIL PARK FIELD IMPROVEMENTS UNDERWAY

Improvements to the baseball complex at Fossil Park are now underway. The long awaited construction began this month with both Fossil Park Youth Baseball, Inc. and
the City of St. Petersburg sharing the costs.

Plans call for a new 78 space parking lot near the fire station to help relieve parking along Atwood Avenue. This lot
will be located at the north-east end of Field 1...better known as the Minor-Major field. (Click Photo for larger view)

Drainage improvements are also underway to relieve standing water problems on the grounds. Drainage corrections for the Junior and Senior field will begin at the end
of the season and is scheduled to be completed before the opening of the Fall Season schedules.

A new 200 ft. baseball field is to be built with plans for future lighting. This field will be located near the the
concessions and league office area and will be considered a multi-use field hosting divisions from T-Ball through the Minor-Majors. This field will take the place of
the current T-Ball field moving these youngsters up closer to the center of the complex. (Click Photos for larger view)

The current T-Ball field will be converted to open park area with 156 new trees including slash pines, live oak, sycamores, and American hollies to replace the 77 trees
being removed. The trees being removed consist of 49 slash pines, 25 sabel palms, 2 oaks, and 1 maple. In addition to replanting 2 trees for every one moved,
approximately five hundred 3-gal. shrubs are to be planted to landscape the parking area.
